Taopix Calendar Designer a Hit at Conservatree

UK design and print company, Conservatree, has reported the successful introduction of its new calendar software powered by the Taopix platform.

The Reading company, established in 1993, currently employs 21 people and, as its name suggests, is committed to protecting the environment by minimising the waste it produces and using materials such as recycled and FSC certified paper.

The company purchased Taopix Online, from UK Taopix distributor Transeo Media, in September 2016 and quickly launched a new range of calendars just in time for the busy Christmas period.

Conservatree’s thriving calendar division, thecalendarprinters.com, operates both litho and digital presses with around 90% of all calendars being digitally printed.

The company manufactures calendars for some of the UK’s best known musicians and sportsmen such as Radiohead and Bastille as well as rugby star Ben Cohen.

Prior to last year, the company had offered customisable calendars to individuals, clubs and societies through it’s own Flash-based calendar designer and had even commissioned the bespoke building of a new HTML5 platform when Conservatree’s Operations Director, Justin Earl, discovered Taopix:

“When I came across Taopix, we immediately cancelled our plans to have a calendar designer built for us. We were going to have to spend a lot of money and had previous experience of running a bespoke platform and the challenges that posed; the need for developer skills, the constant browser updates needed, keeping the software up to date and the difficulty in adding new templates.”

“With Taopix, I could see the immediate benefits in partnering with a company that specialises in our market and has many customers who are reliant on the software always being up to date. I also appreciated the additional bonus of having both mobile and tablet support. We were thinking of commissioning an app too but really liked Taopix’s web app approach. If you study the research that has already been done in this area, it clearly shows that people really only use 5-6 apps per day and it’s hard to change people’s habits. The Taopix web app looks really good on web browsers.”

Conservatree's Managing Director, Chris Goslar, continues “We can create a new online product really easily and teach anyone in the business how to use Taopix to make templates. There’s no need for programmers and you can have a product live in 24-48 hours.”

“It would have cost us a fortune if we had to do it ourselves and we would still have the challenge of keeping up to date with browsers. We now have the assurance that our customers have an application that works across all browsers and devices and is available at all times.”

“There are other systems out there that will do similar things but they are not geared for personalisation by the consumer, they may be powerful but they’re not user friendly.”

“I really like the flexible start month as I can sell out of season if necessary. This feature applies especially to those who have missed out buying their calendar in December or January but still want a calendar for the rest of the year. They can now have an 11 month calendar starting in February if they want to. We also have some schools who place orders for calendars with a start month of September. It’s a great feature - being able to start at any time.”

Goslar would like to extend his product offering by adding photo cards, canvas prints and acrylics and possibly wallpaper as he’s receiving considerable amount of enquiries about these products.

“I’m seeing a cross marketing opportunity as we have accumulated over 8,000 customers now and it makes sense to offer them additional personalised products that we can manufacture with our existing equipment.”
